Instructions: Review Section Five: Relationships with Family. Please note that each reaction is not right or wrong. This resource does not cover how you can support the families or those who care about someone with substance use issues, it just explains that they benefit from support - for example, by talking with other families who have gone through similar situations. It is very important that you do not judge how the family or others are reacting. The best conduct to adopt is that of empathy, sharing scientific information about substances, and sharing the personal information of patients outside the circle of professional care only with the consent of the patient, as explained in prior modules.
